  • Ask the children to find specific information about Celtic or Roman life. Use CD-ROM's or the Internet to find the information the MAPE site has a history treasure trail this could be a good starting point. http://www.mape.org.uk/kids/index.htm
  • Ask the children to produce an information sheet on aspect of Roman life. Use a WP program, which allows them to combine text and graphics, images can come from, CD-ROM's, the Internet. (GOOGLE image search is a good way of finding images)
  • Use a newspaper template to create the front page of a Roman or Celtic Newspaper taking a main event from the topic e.g. Boudicca's revolt.

  • Use Internet to find portraits of Henry VIII and his wives. The National Portrait Gallery is a good stating point. Copy and paste the images into a DTP or Word-processing package. Use it to write a description of one of the portraits.
  • Produce a information sheet about one of the wives. Use images and text from the Internet and CD ROM bringing together the key points of this unit.
  • Write a newspaper report, imagining they are reporting about the end of one of Henrys Marriages.

  • Use one of the web sites to find out about find out about the lives of rich and poor people in Tudor times. Ask the children to collate the information into a prepared table or spreadsheet. See example

  • Inventories provide a valuable primary source material rich in historical evidence. Children can be encouraged to make some deductions about the lives of the people who lived in Tudor times from the nature of their belongings, particularly if comparisons can be drawn with the sorts of possessions from less wealthy houses.   • Take a tour around the local area or visit a local old building, churches and graveyards are always a good source of information. During the visit use digital cameras to record the visit and particular places of interest. After the visit use a variety of reference materials including CD-ROM's and the Internet to find out what it would have been like to live and work in that building in the past. Produce an information sheet on an aspect of the visit incorporating the digital images.
  • Use tape recorders to interview people in the local area to find out about the changes in the district. Collect images from the local area over a number of years Scan images to create a digital record.
  • Find information about you locality, use the Internet to find local history societies or
  • Collect information e.g. a mini census (link with a geography topic) If you can get hold of an older census compare some of the data to find out changes.
